Visceral Therapy
Visceral therapy is a manual therapy method that focuses on the internal organs and the surrounding tissues. It is based on the idea that the mobility and condition of internal organs (e.g., liver, intestines, stomach, diaphragm, etc.) affect the musculoskeletal system, posture, and overall well-being.
What happens during visceral therapy:
-
The physiotherapist applies very gentle manual pressure and mobilizations to the abdominal, thoracic, or pelvic area
-
Attempts to release tension in the connective tissues and fascia around the internal organs
-
Improves blood circulation, lymphatic flow, and organ mobility
When it is used:
-
Digestive issues (e.g., constipation, abdominal discomfort)
-
Tension in the back, pelvis, or diaphragm related to the condition of internal organs
-
After surgeries or injuries when adhesions have formed
-
Chronic pain without a clear underlying cause
